PrefabAUSSmart Building Contract

How to use the platform

From account to signed contract, in eleven steps. Most of it is filling in one guided form — the rest is done for you.

1
Create your accountSign-in page

Register with your email and a password, or use Continue with Google. Enter your PrefabAUS membership code when you sign up to unlock member access — during the pilot that makes contracts free. If you already have an account and forgot the password, use Forgot password; the reset email names the account it belongs to.

2
Save your company profile firstCompany profile

This is the step that saves the most time. Enter your company details once — name, ABN, registration, insurance, margins, design package, storage terms and warranty periods — and mark one profile as default. Every new contract is then pre-filled, so you only complete the job-specific fields. You can keep several profiles (for example one per state).

3
Start a contract+ New contract

Choose the state the work is in — the contract adapts to that jurisdiction's requirements — and give it a title you'll recognise later. Your default company profile is applied automatically.

4
Complete the detailsDetails tab

Work through the guided questionnaire: owner, site, contract sum, dates and the schedule particulars. Everything saves as you go. The progress bar shows required fields complete — you can't issue until they all are, which is what stops an incomplete contract reaching a homeowner. Add your own job reference at the top to find it again later.

5
Add the partiesParties tab

Enter the contractor and owner (and a witness if you use one), with the order they sign in. These names and addresses flow into the contract itself. Note that “Contractor” is the contract's term for the builder/manufacturer — that's you, not a subcontractor.

6
Preview a draftDocuments & signing

Generate a draft at any time. It's watermarked DRAFT — NOT FOR SIGNING, so it can be circulated safely for checking without any risk of it being mistaken for the real thing.

7
Share it with the owner for reviewShare for review

Create a review link and send it to the homeowner. They don't need an account — they enter their name and email and can read the draft. You'll see when they've opened it. Links expire after 14 days and you can revoke one at any time. This replaces emailing PDFs back and forth.

8
Attach supporting documentsDocuments & signing

Add drawings, specifications, engineering or soil reports against the contract — PDF, image or Excel, up to 25 MB each. They stay with the contract so everything lives in one place.

9
Issue the contractFinalise contract

When every required field is complete, finalise it. This produces the final PDF on the real PrefabAUS master contract and uses one contract credit. Once issued, the details are locked — that's deliberate, because it's now the document people will sign.

10
Sign it — on paper, during the pilotDocuments & signing

Download the finished PDF, have it signed by the parties, then use Record a signed contract to mark it executed and upload the signed scan.
Electronic signing is switched off during the pilot on purpose — it runs on test credentials that would not be legally binding, so we'd rather you sign on paper than hold a document that only looks executed.

11
Find it, reuse it, amend itMy contracts

Search by number, title or job reference. Duplicate any contract to start a new one pre-filled with the same details and parties — useful for repeat builds. If the contract template is updated, or you need to amend a signed contract, use Start updated copy: it creates a new linked document and never alters the original.
